Investing in Community Spaces Through the Landfill Communities Fund

From play areas to heritage parks, our Landfill Communities Fund is helping create accessible, vibrant spaces that strengthen communities and improve everyday life.

Tarmac’s Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) helps deliver projects that matter to local people by supporting community facilities, environmental improvements, and public spaces near our operations. The fund enables organisations within four miles of a Tarmac waste, cement or quarrying site (and within ten miles of a licensed landfill site) to access grants that strengthen community life, improve wellbeing and create better places for people to enjoy.

In 2025, almost £650,000 was awarded to projects across the country, helping improve parks, play areas, sports clubs and nature spaces that communities rely on every day.

Supporting Places That Bring People Together

Bucklesham – New Play Equipment (£30,000)
In Bucklesham, LCF funding supported Phase Two of the village play area upgrade. A community consultation held at the village hall helped shape the design to reflect the needs of local families, with the funding used to purchase a Trim Trail, Cone Spinner and Inclusive Play Ship.

Highfield Park – Path Resurfacing (£30,000)
Highfield Park Trust received funding to repair a deteriorating section of public footpath, improving accessibility across the well‑used green space. The resurfacing work will help ensure the path remains

safe and usable for all visitors, supporting the Trust’s long‑term focus on accessibility. Support from the fund allows the park to keep improving routes across its large landscape while ensuring access for all.

Bradgate Park – Pathway Improvements (£90,000)
Bradgate Park, one of the region’s most loved heritage and wildlife sites, received funding towards major improvements to two heavily worn off‑road paths. The project will restore
around 1 km of track using locally sourced stone and improve drainage to protect fragile habitats. The work will help keep visitors on designated paths, reduce erosion, safeguard ancient trees, and ensure year‑round access.

Bradgate Park Trust emphasised that these improvements will benefit both visitors and wildlife, protecting sensitive habitats while enhancing the visitor experience and preserving the distinctive rural character of the park for future generations.

Ferryhill – Dean Bank Park Play Area (£95,000)
Ferryhill Town Council secured funding for a major transformation of the Dean Bank Park play area. The project will replace ageing junior equipment with modern, inclusive and vibrant new play features, alongside the addition of teenage equipment. The upgrade will breathe new life into a much‑loved space with roots in the area’s mining heritage, helping children and families enjoy a safer, more engaging community facility.

Supporting Grassroots Sport – £150,000 Combined
Over £150,000 was shared across nine community sports clubs to support essential improvements, including new floodlighting, heating system replacements, maintenance equipment and, for one club, a new solar installation. Many community clubs are run entirely by volunteers, so this support helps ease pressure on local groups, enabling them to continue offering valuable opportunities for connection, activity and wellbeing.

Looking Ahead

Tarmac’s support through the Landfill Communities Fund continues to play an important role in enhancing the places local people value most. From play areas and footpaths to heritage parks and sports facilities, these investments help strengthen communities, improve access to green spaces, and ensure local groups can flourish. Through the LCF, we remain committed to supporting projects that bring people together and improve everyday life in the areas local to us.
