Colleague mentoring

“This experience has been of huge value and it was very useful to be able to have some relaxed discussions followed by the right level of challenge at each of our meetings. Our conversations have been thought provoking and I have taken away some positive lessons that I now use daily.”

Melanie Buswell, Despatch Planning Manager for Materials

This year at Tarmac we relaunched our colleague mentoring programme to all employees, as a way to learn from and connect with colleagues. A mentor is typically someone from a different business unit, which gives employees more opportunity to learn about the different areas of the business.

This opportunity allows colleagues to make best use of the skills, knowledge and talents of others already in our business. As part of the overall learning and development agenda, mentoring is one of many ways you can learn, develop and increase your knowledge at work.

Peter Kay, Head of Learning and Development said: “Mentoring is a brilliant way to learn and grow your skills. Separate from your normal work relationships, a mentor guides you through opportunities and challenges in your current role. The programme helps progress mentors too and gives them a further appreciation of the business from a different perspective.”
